All right new thing to recommend this week!  It’s the webcomic Sinfest by some dude named Tatsuya Ishida.  I don’t really know how to describe the comic though.  It’s a comic about nothing really, but it totally works.  I guess it’s a slice of fantasy life webcomic?  It’s got God and Satan, the artist, girls, boys, references, just about everything.  It has mini arcs sometimes, and sometimes it has a side-series thing.  There’s a few times where there’s a side gag strip;  Something like a bit called “You Had to be There”  where you’re only just getting the last bit of a conversation, or more commonly, a strip where a character transforms into a kanji character throughout the four panels.  It’s pretty fun and whimsical with some commentary about everything really.  So go check it out!

All right my first weird shit post for recommendation.   Mysterious Girlfriend X by  Ueshiba Riichi is an ongoing romance manga with a twist.  The main character becomes addicted to the strange transfer student’s…drool.   Yes that’s right drool. Saliva.  One can’t forget about the scissors she keeps in her panties either.  A pretty unusual element to a pretty standard beginners love / romantic story, and luckily the story holds up.   I love the manga to death, despite my initial misgivings about the art style.  I really wish there were more odd sort of things like this around.  I know (and will probably post about) a few but something that’s kind of strange in an otherwise completely normal setting just gets me more than the average romantic school life manga.  Unfortunately there’s no english version so you’re stuck reading scanlations and such, but this series is totally worth it.  If there’s ever an english translation to buy I recommend buying the fuck out of it, I sure would.  So do a quick google search and check that shit out.

So lady Dodger does two shows on youtube.  The first series Coffeh, is basically about her day and the show I prefer which is probably a bit suprising considering I’m a male gamer, and her second show is Gaming Newz and we all know how a ridiculous amount of gamers (and people in general I suppose) can’t control themselves into “LOL NO GIRLS ON THE INTERNET” “GAMER GIRLS ARE JUST ATTENTION WHORES” or just being creepy fucks in general. Luckily it’s more of the creepy which I always thought I’d find flattering if I was a lady but whatever, that’s not the point, moving right along. She seems to know her shit which is great, but gaming news in general doesn’t really interest me aside from just kinda checking headlines, so this ones not my kind of show, but if you’re interested you should check it out.  She also participates in The GameStation channel.  Love this lady, she’s super enthusiastic about pretty much everything which is what makes her videos awesome in my opinion.  So go check her out if you’re interested links below as well, as always!

As a bit of a postscript,  I am working on some videos to get my youtube active again, though keep in mind they will be low quality, low rent, as my GPU is pretty awful.  Also from a previous post Courage My Love now have an EP out!  Go buy that shit at

[Demos] Space Marine

No update last week, was following Gamescon, IEM, and such.  This week isn’t so much an update for a full recommendation as it is a demanding you to go fucking play Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine.  Holy shit this demo.  Once you’re done, come back and finish.

So problems with it:

People have had sound stuttering problems.

Too easy even on the hard difficulty setting.  And I play with an abysmal framerate.

FoV Change – Not something I really need/notice but it’s nice to have so you don’t have to go through all the trouble changing it like you have to in say, Borderlands.

Ork Voices – Is it just me or do they not have sort of distinction?   I could just be insane here.

Demo Options – Mine never save, every time I load up I have to change the options again.

Repeat Animations – This will get so old if the games long, and for the price I’d expect it to be at least a good medium length.  I assume it will change with the weapons more so hopefully that’s not a big deal.

That being said I’m playing the FUCK out of this demo.  I may have my minor gripes but I’m pretty satisfied.  Game length pending for the price tag though.  I was so desperate I played this on my pc.  I get anywhere to full on freezes – 10 fps.  I threw up twice playing the Assault mission (Constant bad framerate makes me sick), and it was TOTALLY FUCKING WORTH IT.  Game feels good.  So go play the Demo again.

Sidenote: Street Fighter 3rd Strike Online was released on the Playstation Network today.  I recommend it for the 15 dollar price tag and it’s my favourite Street Fighter game.  I can’t afford it and don’t have a Playstation 3 so go buy it in my stead!  Releases on XBLA tomorrrow.

*UPDATE*
They did indeed have an Album/EP or whatever coming out!  Go buy it now I demand it.

The URL for their site is completely accurate: I love Courage My Love.

Holy shit I just keep replaying their songs.  From Canada, Courage My Love has put nearly every other artist in my music library (which is considerably larger than my poor 80 gig ipod can handle) off rotation.  I can’t really remember how I even discovered them;  I found their Tegan and Sara – Hope a Plane cover around the same time the podcast Tell ‘Em Steve Dave had them as their listener band.  Not one really delve into genres I guess I’d consider ‘em to be a rock band.  Their Youtube has around 20 videos, including some actual music videos.  The latest one was a video and music done to Walt Flannagan’s (From Tell ‘em Steve Dave) lyrics, and is pretty brilliant.  I Sell Comic’s is the title and is currently for sale in an attempt to join Tell ‘Em Steve Dave in October to do a live show (detailed here).  The song that was featured on the TESD podcast also has a video, Bridges.  Only three members big, the bands cute as shit between twin sisters Mercedes (Guitar), and Phoenix (Drums) and the bass player David (who I’m told is cute;  I prefer my men to be David Boreanaz or Nathan Fillion, so you’re not my type, sorry bro~).  All three do vocals to songs, and you can catch them live if you’re in Canadalands, which I’m not, but hopefully I can make it out there to see them at some point, I’d be super fucking stoked.  They did just play Warped Tour which I bet was fucking awesome for them, and for fans.  I believe they are currently working on making a record, although I am not completely sure, and hope I can scrape enough money to grab it once they do release one.  I’ve literally ripped and edited out some of the dead intro space on the Youtube audio of some of their songs just so I could get ‘em on my ipod in the meantime.  I’ve also been obsessively searching Youtube daily to see if any video from Warped Tour with ‘em has gotten uploaded (I swear there was one but I don’t see it anymore).  The bands a total fucking joy to listen to, and the best way to express that is to admit I’ve gotten bruises from jumping around and air guitaring while they blast through my speakers while I’m in the shower.  The lot have talent and have kind of reinspired me to try to get back into playing my guitar, just so I can learn how to play their songs, although I don’t have the proficiency with any of my instruments that they do.

Anyway be spammed with links to all their shit because holy fuck I love these ladies (and guy! I won’t forget you sir.)

Store – A bit sad it only seems to be s/m/l sizes and I like to wear overly large 2xl shirts.  Not that I can afford ‘em.

They’ve even streamed one or two of their shows (awesome~) unless I was hallucinating but I don’t have a link to the stream page offhand, if I find it I’ll make an edit.

*EDIT*  Holy shit they actually read it.  Thanks for the Retweet and thanks to @mendystar1 from twitter for correcting me on calling the bass player Dave instead of David; I fixed it.  (Although I am a he not a she.  It’s cool though.)

No wiki for the game.

This is more of a demo of an incomplete game but it is rather fun and pretty enjoyable for the short time you’ll be playing it.  It’s a 2D Platform game (Metroidvania as it’s referred to, a portmanteau of Castlevania and Metroid) where you play a female main character named Robin, a mechanic in a place where being one is illegal.  The music is great, as is the art work, and I’m partial to the bright colourful aesthetics the game has.  You jump around and solve puzzles and kill enemies all with your wrench, which you can upgrade.  I don’t really want to give much away, so I just suggest going and downloading it.  Unfortunately the developer Konjak seems to have hit sort of a rut (along with money problems) so who knows where the project will go but I’m pretty happy with the small bit of game there is, and would love more of it.

Since this is a small post about more of an indie game demo, I’ll update again this week, with another short.

In an attempt to not jump into something completely weird that I like my first post is going to be about the manga series Kimi ni Todoke by Karuho Shiina.  A romantic comedy with serious moments.   The manga follows the female lead Sawako who has no friends and is likened to Sadako (from the horror film Ring) and so rumors follow about her abilities to curse people, talk with ghosts, and the like not helped by her inability to interact with people normally.  Along comes Kazehaya, a popular guy who can’t stand to see people left out, and we see her beginning to take more chances, and be more brave to make new friends.

I love this series a lot, especially the first few chapters, and one specific chapter midway through the series.  The series has a great, if a little typical, cast of characters, and the interactions and relationships are completely entrancing to me.  The anime series adopted from the manga is just as good in my opinion, and there’s also a live action film that I have yet to see.  I highly recommend it be read to everyone.
